Matt joins Co-Presidents Grant McCarty and David Zell in leading BPI as we scale our presence in DC.
We’re pleased to announce that Matthew Pines has joined the Bitcoin Policy Institute full-time as our Executive Director. In this role, he will help lead the organization alongside Co-Presidents Grant McCarty and David Zell.
Matt has been a key part of BPI since the beginning. He wrote our first white paper, served as a Fellow since 2022, and has been a key advisor as we’ve grown over the years.
His background makes him an ideal fit to help steer our think tank as it expands to meet the demands of the moment. Matt studied physics and philosophy at Johns Hopkins University and earned a master’s in philosophy and public policy from the London School of Economics. In previous roles, he advised the U.S. government on national preparedness and emerging technology and served as Director of Intelligence for a geopolitical and cybersecurity consultancy.
National leadership is now approaching Bitcoin with unprecedented positivity. The policy being forged now will set the course for America’s relationship to Bitcoin for years to come.
As Executive Director, Matt will shape organizational development, research focus, and operational execution by the BPI team in Washington D.C. to accelerate policy engagement and elevate the strategic conversation about the future of money.
BPI Co-Founders David Zell and Grant McCarty will transition to Co-Presidents, allowing them to focus on strategic initiatives and organizational partnerships while strengthening BPI’s overall impact. Their commitment to BPI and day-to-day involvement with the organization remains unchanged.
Longtime Bitcoin advocate and BPI board member Matt Odell remarked:
“Matthew Pines brings significant experience on both the Bitcoin and policy sides, complementing the strong continued stewardship of the organization by Grant McCarty and David Zell.”
We appreciate your continued support of and attention to our work advancing responsible and well-informed Bitcoin policy. We are bringing on top tier staff to expand our operations, research, and engagement in D.C. and beyond.
We have a clear vision, a simple mission, and the talent to execute. We couldn't be more excited!
- Grant, David, and Matt
